since when is laughter healthy? « Thread Started on Sept 24, 2008, 10:39pm »
"Laugh a little! It's healthy! Makes you happy! Loosens tension!"
Since when was laughter healthy? Wilhelmina had never heard such a thing before. Laughter wasn't healthy, not in her opinion. It was muscle spasms in one's abdomen, causing constrictions and bursts of air through the mouth and nose. How was that healthy? Still, after her vehement refusals, she was here. Why did she always end up in these situations? Mina wanted to be at home, curled up all comfortable like on her big cushy bed and sleep all night. But no, she was kidnapped by her friends and forced to come to a seedy little comedy club. 'To loosen her up a little' they said. Was she wound so tightly?
It was cold. Too cold for a human to be out without a jacket. She had forgotten it at home, again, and was now outside in a white button up shirt with short sleeves, and a black frilly skirt. A loose black tie hung around her neck, and her raven hair was pulled back to keep it out of her pale sapphire eyes. Goosebumps rose on her skin as people walked by. She didn't know any of them, other than the couple of people beside her she called friends. Mina gazed at them for a moment, then kneeled down to pull up her boots. Leather 'hooker boots' that went up to her knee. A bit uncomfortable, but the only thing she could find to suit her outfit.
Biting the corner of her lower lip, Mina raised her hands to rub her arms. She had to generate some sort of heat, otherwise she could freeze out here. Was she going to be able to get inside any time this year? This seedy little comedy club hadn't turned out to be little at all. It was rather impressive, although Mina would never admit it. She didn't like being wrong, or losing, so this would feel like a loss of some sort. "Will they hurry up..." she muttered under her breath, germanic descent ringing in her tone. Impatience was killing her.
Finally, her friends grasped her wrist to tug her inside. Light blasted into her eyes, blinding her for a moment. It took a few seconds for her eyes to adjust. Once they had, she noticed several people were already making themselves comfortable. Mina wasn't sure where their seats were, so she silently followed her friends until they reached the center, towards the back. This would be nice. Out of the direct light, though within hearing distance. These jokes better be good, or else it would be a complete waste of time to be here.
Wilhelmina was about to sit down when her stomach growled quietly. That's right, she hadn't eaten hardly anything today. Did this place have a snack bar, or something? Mina checked her purse for a tiny bag of crackers, but there was nothing there. "Damn it. I'll be right back, all right?" she told her friends. They nodded in acknowledgment, but said nothing directly to her. They really did care about her, it seemed. Mina rolled her eyes, and stepped away from their area to head to the main doors again. There, she would be able to see the entire room without having to stand on tiptoes. This short thing was really getting old.
The bodies had begun to pile in. Huh. Maybe this place wasn't so bad. If there were so many people here, it must be somewhat good. Mina shrugged, and pushed her way past a couple grasping hands. How cute. Mina giggled quietly, then jumped over a purse on the ground to reach the main doors. She stayed to the right, to avoid flow of traffic. Sapphire hues scanned the room to find a source of nourishment.

For a Wednesday night this place was too crowded. What could be going on that would draw so many humans to one area? Jean Claude must be planning something pretty spectacular if THIS may people are here. I just hope he knows what he's doing. She thought to herself as she glided between rushing bodies.
Here on business again, discussing alliance terms was really becoming a pain in the ass for her. A master of her stature would appreciate it if he would at least make an effort to see her in her own abode once in a while. She grumbled to herself, paying nearly no attention to the living bodies flying past her.
She stood out well against the crowd, 6 feet tall and deep wine hair swaying with her height. It looked nearly effortless, the way she moved amongst so many, nearly gliding. Swinging around in a circle quickly, her hand dug around in the shallow pocket of her Opera jacket realizing that her old-fashioned coin purse had fallen out. Looking at the ground she noticed it in the blur off feet and heels. Looking up, chuckling to herself quietly as a small dark-haired girl jumped over it, she snatched it in a flash returning her posture to the way it was before.
"Only a fool would swim upstream in a river full o' sharks." She spoke in metaphors often, directing it at the dark-haired woman who hopped over her coin purse earlier. "You'd be better tryin' to fly,. lass." Her Celtic accent was thick and heavy, making it obvious she wasn't from around here. Alabaster skin made it even more obvious that she wasn't human. Small details of her face were made out in the shifting of low light. Shimmering blue colors were painted on her lid just above thick lashes lining her gem-like turquoise eyes, pale blush pink lips, in an effort to smile and seem friendly.

Blast. From what she could see, there didn't seem to be a counter for food. Even if there was nourishment here, it more than likely wouldn't suit her. This place was run by vampires, wasn't it? The thought made a tiny, fearful whimper come from her lips. Vampires. How lovely. Mina had never been fond of them, although she had never had any real altercations with one before. They just frightened her. Then again, many things frightened the small woman.
Which was exactly the case when a sudden female voice was heard from behind her. Mina jumped, another whimper returning to her lips. Immediately Mina's eyes widened and gazed up, literally up, at the woman nearly a foot taller than herself. Mina's hands came up to grasp each other at her chest. She tried to explain why she was here, but the only sound that came out was a whispered 'wha-'
Finally, after taking a quick deep breath, she managed to stutter, "I'm not...I mean...I don't..." Not much better than her 'wha-'. Wilhelmina's lower lip quivered, as if she were about to cry. This statuesque woman greatly intimidated her. Mina could barely look up at her without feeling like an ant ready to be squashed. It was obvious this woman wasn't human, which only added to Mina's fear.
Dropping her gaze to the floor, like she was ashamed for having done something wrong, Mina dropped her hands as well, though keeping them together down by her waist. "My friends brought me here," she explained meekly, shifting her feet for a moment. The German tone was thick, but understandable. It was obvious she wasn't from around here originally either.
Really, her friends should have known better than to bring her here. Tiny, easily scared Mina didn't belong in a building filled with terrifying vampires, and other creatures she was sure were here as well. Mina's lower lip quivered again, harder this time, and she was forced to bite the corner of her lower lip to stop it from trembling.

A laugh echoed dimly through the crowded hall, it was her own. "You're actin' like I'd bit'cha." Looking down at her sharp but manicured nails, a smile cracked on the side of her lips. "But that...m'dear, is illigal. You'd have'ta be willing."
Yes, the wonderful law that gave the undead equal rights. Unfortunately equal consequences such as murder. Why not walk amongst the living where they could gawk at you in public instead of a dark alleyway. But this posed the problem of feeding, best not let her mind wander on that as of right now.
Her eyes shifted back up, although not that far up, fixing themselves back onto the small woman. Taking a deep breath, even though she didn't need to, she continued onto the question originally in mind. "So, why would you be walkin' in the wrong direction in a crowd like this?" Eyebrows raised inquisitively, Aylana's nails danced on the rim of her dark embroidered jacket. She completely disregarded the fact that this young woman was here with her friends, feeling it was unnecessary information. Her chin was held high, her eyes fixed down awaiting an answer.

The dark laugh caused shivers to run down her spine. Mina winced quietly, as if the laughter burned her flesh as the shiver continued down her back. She knew very well the laws of the town, and was ever thankful for them. That was one of her greatest fears, to be fed from. It wasn't the pain that frightened her, but the act itself. She had heard it wasn't a comfortable feeling at all. Not that she would know. Mina had never been fed from before, thankfully.
Wilhelmina kept her gaze low, never looking back up into the gorgeous hues the woman possessed. To be honest, this woman was stunning. That was another reason Mina felt so intimidated. Mina was a pretty girl, there was no doubt in that. But other creatures always seemed to have an air of confidence which heightened their beauty, that Mina would never have. Fiddling with her hands, Mina bit her lip harder.
Hesitating before her answer, she whispered a "I was looking for something to eat" as a reply. For some reason her appetite was now completely gone, and there was only a sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach. Where were her friends? Would they notice she had gone, and not come back yet? Maybe. Would they do anything about it? Probably not. Some friends they were. But they were all Mina had in this place, and she would forgive them for everything, even if they didn't come to her rescue.
"But I couldn't find anything. I think I'll just go back then." Although her body twitched in the direction of her table, her feet did not move. Fear grasped her body, and she was unable to move an inch. Damn this! Why must she be so frightened all the time! The woman had not made a move to harm her in anyway, all she was doing was asking a few simple questions. Still, Mina couldn't propel herself enough to move.

The scent of the young woman's fear was thick as Aylana breathed in. She knew she was intimidating, but never this overbearing. Heels clicking on the floor, she paced behind the woman in the same liquid glide. Hands gently places on small shoulders, she starting walking the young woman towards the back of the club.
Less crowded with better ambient lighting, the bar was vacant. Most people had taken their seats already, anxious to see the supposedly funny preternatural act. "I think they may have hidden this place for a reason." She eyed the rows of liquor, sneering at the intoxicating drinks. Last thing this place needed was a bunch of drunk humans throwing beer bottles at the stage. "With some acts havin' zombies in them you'd think they would keep the booze under better lock and key..." Her hand fell onto the bar top a little harder than it should have. Shaking her head and pressing disappointment back into the depths of her mind, she turned back to the small woman. "The bar tender o'er there can take your order." Her head nodded over at the man rubbing down a bunch of cocktail glasses.
Stepping back to give the woman some breathing room, she folded her hands over her chest. Eyes wandered around the neon decorated interior. Funny puns lined the bar and faded as they reached the stage, which has the cliche red velvet curtains hanging from each side. A single mic stood in the middle of the table crowded stage with a stool holding a couple glasses of water.
The lights started dimming and a loud voice was projected across the room. There was that french accent so well known to her, it was Jean Claude announcing the first comedian. The show was about to begin...

For a moment she thought the woman had grown bored with her, as most people usually did, and had simply wandered off. Mina almost had the will to move until two solid feminine hands were placed onto her shoulders. Although Mina could not see behind her, she knew it was the vampire woman. A small squeak escaped her lips. Mina allowed herself to be led by the other female, having no intention to move unless moved by her. Her entire body shook as they slowed to a stop.
The alcohol didn't bother her, though the smell wasn't pleasant. Mina didn't drink, mainly because she was not old enough to. Two more years and she would be able to. For now, she would behave and not allow the poisonous liquid to drift down her throat. Mina was a good girl. Never did any drugs, didn't smoke cigarettes, and obeyed the rules.
The sudden noise of a hand on counter made her jump. Mina twirled around to face the woman, this time able to gaze at her face instead of the floor. "I'm not...hungry anymore," she whispered honestly. The moment this woman came into view all her hunger had vanished. Blast this intense fear of...everything! One day she would be able to walk the street without jumping at the sound of a car. However, that day was nowhere near.
As the lights dimmed, Mina frowned. She wouldn't be able to see back to her table now. After a few seconds her eyes adjusted to the different lighting. Sighing gently, Mina almost forgot for a moment the woman was there. She blushed, although it would hardly be seen in the dark. "Thank you," she said just before a male's voice came over the speakers, which also made her blush. The voice wasn't familiar, but she knew it was the owner of this club. Mina wasn't sure she wanted to stay. She felt a little dizzy, sick for some reason. If she had to, she would leave, but she didn't want to leave her so called friends behind. Although she was sure they wouldn't wait for her.

A laugh left Aylana's lips, the kind that makes your spine tingle and your toes curl. Her voice could have a similar effect if she wanted it to. The blood that flowed through her veins, metaphorically speaking of coarse, was the key to these intense emotions of lust most people felt when she spoke. Belle Mort's bloodline ran strong in her, the curse or "gift" of Beautiful Death. Unfortunately, for some, the emotions ended up being fear, and this was one of those cases. "I apologize for scaring the hunger outa' you. I never meant to be threatanin', it's hard not to with an appearance like this." Her tone never left a low purr. It was just loud enough to be heard over the hushed crowd.
"Maybe you should be gettin' back to your table. I can direct you there if ya'd like, I know the place well." She looked down at the petite woman, hands in a forward gesturing motion. Fear was not what she wanted right now, just compliance. Though, she sensed something deeper in the woman's eyes, deeper than fear. Her face shifted accordingly, showing some accomplishment of discovery. The offer stayed open, she had to wait for the act to be over to see Jean Claude anyway. Business, always business. Oh yes, and problems. Luckily they were on common terms or else there may have been a problem, being as how close her territory is situated to his.
A small sigh left her lips, a breath not needed but taken anyway. Adjusting the neckline of her jacket nervously, though hiding it as much as she can, she proceeded to try and walk the small woman back to her table, hoping that she didn't jump out of her skin first. So nervous and fragile, yet something deeper lied in her veins, Aylana couldn't quite put her finger on it.

The laughter affected her more so than most others probably. The shiver that traveled down her spine showed no signs of stopping, even after the icy laughter had subsided. Mina blushed a bit further, dropping her gaze to the floor in shame. Everything about this woman had an effect on Mina. Her flawless beauty, her ice cold voice, and simply her demeanor. It was as if the woman had been carved from perfect ivory marble, and had been given all traits that people wanted to have. Her cruel beauty was what made the shiver last longer on her spine. Mina had always thought of herself as a pretty girl, but beside this perfect figure she was nothing.
Mina stepped forward a bit, compelled to walk forward to the opened and inviting arms. It wasn't long before she was at the woman's side, following her footsteps back to her table. She really didn't want to go there. Her friends would more than likely inquire about her company. If Mina told them she had been walking with a vampire, she'd never hear the end of it. So Mina stopped walking as they reached the back of her table, out of view from her friend's.
"Thank you," she whispered to the female, gazing up at her for a moment with a gentle smile. Mina wasn't sure if she should say something else. What else was there to say? The blush hadn't faded a shade at all as they had walked, and had only grown deeper from the other woman's presence. Mina bowed her head for a moment respectfully, then turned on her heel and walked around the chairs to her table. The other people there only looked up as she returned, but didn't ask as to where she had gone, or expressed any worry. That was usual. Mina sat down silently, keeping her eyes averted so she wouldn't be tempted to look over her shoulder and try to find the woman once more.
